This is a materials planner. It does not determine whether donor colonies are strong enough to split or whether a specific recipe is appropriate for your conditions.
RESOURCE PLANNING
Turn your split recipe into an apiary-wide frame list
Different beekeepers build nucs differently, so this tool keeps the recipe editable. A Utah State Extension example uses a five-frame nuc with brood, food, and drawn comb; the important part here is that you enter the recipe you actually intend to use and let the calculator scale it.
Best use:Before opening donor colonies, know the total brood, food, comb, and box capacity your plan will consume.
Formula
Resource frames = units × frames per unit Box capacity = boxes × frames per box Spare allowance is rounded up to whole equipment pieces
Worked example
Five nucs built with 2 brood frames, 2 food frames, and 1 drawn frame each require 10 brood frames, 10 food frames, and 5 drawn frames before any spare allowance.
