Queen Grafting Calendar

Plan acceptance checks, capping, cell-transfer, emergence, mating, and expected first-egg windows from a graft date.

QUEEN REARING

Graft-to-Queen Timeline

Enter the day you grafted very young larvae. The calendar estimates the major queen-cell and virgin-queen milestones that follow.

to 8 days

Timeline assumes approximately day-old larvae are grafted. Weather and colony conditions can shift mating and laying dates.

Estimated queen-rearing timeline

Enter a graft date to build the calendar.

Development dates are biological estimates. Inspect the actual cells/colony rather than relying on the calendar alone.

GRAFTING MATH

A date calculator for the milestones after grafting

Penn State describes grafting as transferring very young larvae into queen cups. With day-old larvae, queen cells are typically capped about four days after grafting. Capped cells may be moved to nucs or an incubator roughly six to ten days after grafting, and queen development from egg to adult takes about 16–17 days.

Why a range?Larval age at grafting and biological variation can move emergence by a day or more, while weather can shift mating flights even farther.

Default milestones used here

Acceptance check ≈ graft + 1 day
Cell capped ≈ graft + 4 days
Cell-transfer window ≈ graft + 6 to 10 days
Emergence ≈ graft + 11 to 13 days

After emergence

The existing queen-development guidance used on Beekeeper Calc treats mating flights as a window rather than a fixed date. This page projects a mating window after emergence, then an expected first-egg window after successful mating.
