You do not always know when an egg was laid. You may find a capped queen cell, see a virgin queen, or inspect capped worker brood. This calendar anchors the observation to standard development intervals and estimates surrounding dates in both directions.
Penn State Extension describes honey bee eggs hatching about three days after laying and queen development taking about 16 days from egg to adult. Virgin queens then need time to mature before mating flights.
Weather, genetics, colony condition, observation timing, and mating opportunities can shift events. This is a planning calendar, not proof that a queen mated or began laying on an exact date.
